7‑Eleven, Inc., the largest convenience store chain, announced today it expects to add as many as 20,000 new store employees. The additional hires will add to both 7-Eleven, Inc. and independent 7-Eleven franchised business teams. 7-Eleven indicated the additional positions are needed to meet increased store demand amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Joe DePinto, 7-Eleven CEO commented on the hiring increase.

7-Eleven is a neighborhood store and it’s our priority to serve the communities in which we operate during this unprecedented crisis [. . . .] This will provide job opportunities and ensure 7-Eleven stores remain clean and in-stock with the goods our customers need during this critical time.

7-Eleven also anticipates the store employee position would meet a surge in mobile orders through its 7NOW® delivery app. The app offers delivery of essentials and nonessentials to more than 30 million households across the U.S. According to 7-Eleven, store employees would fulfill 7NOW delivery orders that include grocery staples like milk, bread, and over-the-counter medicine. Some participating stores may also offer beer and wine through the app. Stores typically deliver orders in about 30 minutes, however, 7-Eleven notes current pandemic demand may impact delivery times.
