Anytime Fitness announced its plans to aggressively tap the Pennsylvania fitness market. The company stated it will introduce over twenty-five new gyms in targeted areas throughout Pennsylvania over the next three years.

Anytime Fitness is a 24-hour health and fitness club headquartered in Woodbury, Minnesota. The company operates over 4,000 franchised locations in 50 countries. Their locations are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year except Christmas and New Years Day. According to Forbes, Anytime Fitness was the fastest growing health club franchise in 2014.

Building on Solid Ground

The company seeks to ramp up growth in Pennsylvania through strategic franchise partnerships. Currently, there are nearly 80 Anytime Fitness locations open throughout Pennsylvania. Anytime’s plans for the new locations are technically already in motion. The company has recently launched two new gyms in Philadelphia, three throughout the Pittsburgh area, and one in Bradford.

In its press release, Anytime cited Pennsylvania’s open real estate market, multiple successful existing franchisees, and a favorable competitive landscape, as catalysts for continued growth. The company also announced it is seeking motivated franchise partners to develop new locations throughout Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Altoona, Scranton, and Allentown – all through single or multi-unit agreements (you can get more information on Anytime Fitness franchising here).

The company also highlighted the success of multi-unit operators Larry Appell and David Sabo. Appell and Sabo joined the Anytime franchise system in 2013 and now own more than 20 Anytime Fitness gyms. The pair operate three of the locations in Pennsylvania. In addition, Apell and Sabo own eight additional licenses across the commonwealth.

In the press release, Sabo stated “[w]e believe in the customer-oriented approach to the fitness industry that Anytime Fitness embodies. Many other boutique facilities under-service their customers through limited engagement, limited services, etc. whereas we believe there is an obligation to our members to help guide them to achieve their health and wellness goals [. . . .]” “We’re in the people business, building connections in our communities, and we’re seeing tremendous success with the support of the franchise team.”
