Auntie Anne’s, the world’s largest hand-rolled soft pretzel franchise, is partnering with Coca-Cola for a new basketball-themed promotion. The pretzel giant introduced its limited edition Auntie Anne’s Basketball Bucket this week. Each Auntie Anne’s Basketball Bucket features unique packaging that transforms the brand’s traditional bucket into a basketball hoop with a backboard. The buckets are filled with freshly baked Pretzel Nuggets or Mini Pretzel Dogs and include a scanable code for access to an app-based game.
Celebrating the Non-Existent NCAA Tournament
Presumably, the promotion is a nod to March Madness and the NCAA’s mens and womens basketball tournaments. The NCAA tournaments, however, have been cancelled in light of the novel coronavirus. This is the first time the men’s championship will not be decided since NCAA postseason play began in 1939. This is also a first for women since the NCAA took over that tournament in 1981-1982. In a statement released last week, the NCAA announced the cancellation. “Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships [. . . .]”
Nonetheless, Auntie Anne’s is marching on with the promo. With a Basketball Buckets purchase, customers can shoot for a chance to win instant rewards from March 12 to April 9. Customers must scan the code on the bucket’s backboard and play the store’s game on their mobile device. Prizes include a Coca-Cola fountain soda, a Sugar Pretzel, or a $0 delivery fee on an Auntie Anne’s DoorDash delivery. Customers have to sign up at Coke.com/Rewards for eligibility.
For more information on how to play and win, check out the promo’s site. Basketball Buckets are available at participating stores nationwide. The promo ends on April 9th.
