McDonald’s announced a new partnership with Postmates for its McDelivery service to provide delivery in Los Angeles and Dallas. McDonald’s will be available from more than 300 restaurants in the area via Postmates starting this week.

In 2017, McDonald’s launched its McDelivery service to the United States via Uber Eats. Two years later, the company announced it would also partner with DoorDash to further expand its McDelivery service. McDonald’s has since leveraged both partnerships in multiple markets to increases delivery availability.

While announcing its partnership with Postmates, McDonald’s praised the company as a leader in on-demand delivery. McDonald’s noted Postmates significantly outpaced its competitors in Los Angeles, more than doubling its closest rival’s marketshare.

“We’re excited to bring McDonald’s to the Postmates platform,” said J Goel, Director, Merchant Business Development, Postmates. “With this new announcement, and our leading position in Los Angeles, we have no doubt that this will be a very successful partnership for both McDonald’s and our customers.”

Capitalizing on Convenience

McDonalds seeks to capitalize on the increasing convenience tech platforms like Postmates provide. “As customers demand more convenience, McDonald’s restaurants around the world are working with multiple partners to support the growth of McDelivery,” said Bud Lord, Senior Director of U.S. Delivery for McDonald’s. “Adding Postmates to McDelivery in Los Angeles and Dallas makes it even easier for customers to enjoy their favorite menu items, like a Big Mac®, Chicken McNuggets® and our World Famous Fries®, on their terms.”

McDelivery is now in over 10,000 U.S. restaurants, many of which work with multiple delivery partners. According to McDonald’s, the addition of new delivery partners drove incremental orders nationwide in the fourth quarter of 2019. Delivery accounted for $4 billion in global sales for both McDonald’s and its franchise restaurants in 2019.
