PLNT Burger announced plans to quickly expand its restaurant concept from its single-location home, in Silver Springs, Maryland. In conjunction, the company announced Seth Goldman, Honest Tea Founder and current Beyond Meat Chairman, joined as a Founder.
The burger concept has tasked Goldman with driving expansion plans and strategic planning for the restaurant. He will do so in collaboration with the founding team Chef Spike Mendelsohn, Chef Mike Colletti, Ben Kaplan, Julie Farkas and Jonah Goldman.
Goldman brings to the table a wealth of experience as Founder of Honest Tea. He began Honest Tea out of his home in 1998 and later sold to Coca-Cola Co in 2011. Additionally, and perhaps more relevant to PLNT Burger, Goldman is the current Chairman of the Board of Beyond Meat.
In a press release issued this week, Goldman stated
I am thrilled to join the PLNT Burger team to help democratize plant-based food for everyone [. . . .] Spike and Mike designed a delicious, creative menu and the sales success in Silver Spring validates our belief that this concept is scalable for a mass market.
PLNT Burger also announced businesswoman and human rights activist, Margarita Herdocia, joined as a Founder. Herdocia brings to the table significant financial, real estate investment, management, and food franchise operations experience. She served stints with major industry players, KFC, Pizza Hut and TGIFridays.
Herdocia seeks to create a workplace of choice by building a culture of “Positivity, Learning, Nourishment, and Togetherness.” She notes that’s what PLNT stands for.
What is PLNT Burger?
PLNT Burger is a fast-casual restaurant concept serving a variety of meatless options. The company is currently operating one restaurant located within a Whole Foods in Silver Springs, Maryland. The restaurant’s menu is designed by Chef Spike Mendelsohn, who seeks to redefine some of America’s favorite foods.
According to its website, PLNT Burger’s mission is to give people the ability to ‘Eat the Change’ with delicious foods they love and crave. The company seeks to achieve this by focusing on juicy, indulgent burgers, soft-serve, savory snacks and seasonal salads. According to PLNT Burger, its offerings are free of any animal products, without compromising flavor or experience.
PLNT Burger’s Menu
PLNT Burger’s menu looks like other high-end, fast-casual burger restaurants, with one caveat–all options are meatless. Some highlights include:
- DBL PLNT Burger–A double Beyond Meat patty, with Follow Your Heart American cheese, ruby red tomato, crisp green leaf lettuce, pickles, PLNT sauce, on a Schmidt’s potato bun for $9.95
- PLNT Mushroom Bacon BBQ Burger–A single Beyond Meat patty, Follow Your Heart cheddar cheese, mushroom “bacon,” bloomies, PLNT BBQ sauce, on a Schmidt’s potato bun for $8.25
- PLNT’S Chili Bowl–Ground Beyond Meat, house-made spice blend, beans, tomatoes, green onions, and Follow Your Heart shredded cheddar and “sour cream” for $7.50
- Crispiy Chik N Funguy Sandwich–Oyster mushroom stems, griddled, spiced and fried to perfection on a Schmidt’s potato bun for $7.50
The burger restaurant also offers crispy herbed fries, wavy sweet potato fries, and bloomies. In addition to the savory, PLNT Burger offers a host of sweet options including multiple ice cream and shake verities.
